USA #13: LA day 9 - Getty Center & press screening "The Perfect Getaway"

August 4: Today we went to the Getty Center (which just made me think of Balthazar Getty the entire time ♥) though we only had a few hours to browse around there. Gen and Sherrie really wanted to get some standby tickets for Conan O'Brian that night and to get those they had to both wait in line in the morning to get a number assigned to them and then again in the afternoon in the hope they'd be ale to get in. Because of this we had to leave later and of course come back earlier to make sure they'd be back in time.
Though we were kind of skimming a lot of the exhibitions at the Getty Center and powerwalked through others I am really glad we at least decided to go. The architecture in particular was awestrucking and made me think of Franklin Lloyd Wright. The gardens were also really nice to browse through (yay for some shade under the trees!) and the design looked amazing from above. I really wish we'd had some more time to explore though as I they have the most diverse exhibitions on display from modern art to the making of a famous David statue as well as European paintings from the medieval time.

Driving back to Hollywood Boulevard we had enough time for lunch before Sherrie and Gen had to leave again. We decided to go to In 'n Out Burger because so many Californians had recommended it to us before our trip. But sorry to say: biggest disappointment ever! See, I am not a huge fan of snackfood/burgers/fries to begin with, but figured this would be different in a way (more dinner than McD's perhaps), but it wasn't. Both burger and fries tasted the same and they had a grand selection of 3 burgers! They didn't even have any extras on the menu to pick from like brownies, salads, nuggets, onion rings or any of the other snacks I usually prefer at a Burger King or so. That was once and never again...

Adeline and I had a few more hours to kill before we the movie premiere so while she stayed in the area I took a bus to the nearest money exchange (still about 20 minutes away) to get some much needed Japanese Yen (as I would leave for Tokyo in about a week but still hadn't had a chance to convert some of my money). About an hour later I returned, picked up a frozen yoghurt (I hadn't had one yet that day!) and met Adeline at Starbucks. While there she used the free wifi and we also got a message from Sherrie to say she and Gen had been unsuccessful to get into Conan. So instead Sherrie was going to meet us at the Chinese Theater and join us for the movie.
The movie started at 6pm but we went there at around 5 and were already not the first ones in line, we were near the front though so it was all good. The guy waiting behind us was super nice and we chatted with him for a while, trying to kill some time. About 30 minutes before they'd open the doors they told us we weren't allowed to take cameras etcetera with us inside which is, while logical, very inconvenient as we're tourists and always have cameras on us. And since we had arrived by public transport we couldn't go back to a car to drop our things off. Each time we'd been to a talk show taping security just took our electronic devices and we were able to pick them up again afterwards, but unfortunately they didn't provide the same service at the Chinese Theater. Luckily someone gave us the tip we could drop off our things at the visitor's centre downstairs, though I almost missed out on getting in as I hadn't handed in my cellphone which turned out to have a camera on it (I had no idea as I was borrowing the phone from Ade).
So about the movie: It was called The Perfect Getaway and starred amongst others Steve Zahn (<3), Kiele Sanchez (Niki from Lost) and Chris Hemsworth (George Kirk from the new Star Trek). I went to see it for Steve in particular but ended up really loving Timothy Olifant and Kiele. The movie overall was a lot better than anticipated actually. As it was a press screening it wasn't officially out yet in cinemas and I hadn't heard much about it beforehand. So we went to read a quick summary online and the storyline sounded like a crappy written horror movie but it was actually really well thought out; less horror and more thriller. A nice surprise and definitely a treat as it was free ;)
Another pic of the Roosevelt Hotel, often used for TV-Guide photoshoots

When we took the Metro back home we found tons of cyclists outside the station, gathered for a midnight ride xD
